Disease Control and Prevention

H1N1 flu

6 Ways to Fight the Flu

{1}  Keep your hands clean.

Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.

{2}  Cover your cough and your sneeze.

Use a tissue or cover your mouth with your sleeve when you sneeze or cough.  It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

{3}  Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.

{4}  Avoid close contact.

Especially with people who are sick.  When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

{5}  Stay at home when you are sick.

If possible, stay home from work, school and errands when you are sick.  You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

{6}  Get vaccinated.

This is an important step toward fighting seasonal flu and H1N1.  It helps protect you and others.

FREE H1N1 VACCINE AVAILABLE TO ALL TARRANT COUNTY RESIDENTS

Tarrant County Public Health is now providing the H1N1 vaccine, free of charge, to all Tarrant County residents at any of 12 convenient and easily accessible locations.

The vaccine is available not only at our seven pubic health clinics but also in six store front clinics dedicated specifically to dispense the vaccine.

While the health centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 - 5 p.m., the store fronts will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

The public should get vaccinated before beginning any holiday travel, urged Tarrant County Health Authority Dr. Sandra Parker.  Some areas around the country are more severely affected by the H1N1 virus than Tarrant County and people who travel there need to be protected, she noted, adding that it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to take effect.

For more information about H1N1 vaccinations residents may call 2-1-1.

Tarrant County Public Health remains watchful and along with regional, state and national partners is involved in flu surveillance activities.  Our Public Health Preparedness division provides useful information and resources to assist individuals, businesses, schools, churches and other groups better prepare for health emergencies, such as flu outbreaks.
