County Commissioner Gary Fickes is committed to providing the leadership, experience and knowledge to make Precinct 3 the most desirable area to live and work in the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex. His 30 years of community involvement as a commissioner, mayor and community leader have given him the opportunity and first hand experience in helping to build a truly great area.
Because Northeast Tarrant County (Precinct 3) is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States , innovative solutions are required to address pressing transportation and infrastructure needs. The Precinct includes two major airports (D/FW and Alliance) and numerous major freeways. All major freeways are over capacity at this time. Commissioner Fickes has helped guide the approval and start of construction on two major projects: The North Tarrant Expressway and the DFW Connector. Both projects were approved in the first quarter of 2009. These projects represent over $3 billion in improvements toward increased mobility and reduced congestion in Precinct 3.
Commissioner Fickes supports quality economic development because it is a proven tool for job creation, improved property values, creation of sales tax funds, adds value to the community and improves the quality of life for the region. It brings increased payrolls, more spending power and creates a better economic environment for everyone.
Healthcare is an important issue to Commissioner Fickes. Since being elected, he has worked to improve patient care/outcome and patient access at John Peter Smith Hospital . He has helped create three (3) new school based clinics in Precinct 3 and the Gertrude Tarpley JPS Healthcare Center in Watauga. Commissioner Fickes served as Chairman/Trustee at Harris Methodist Hospital HEB for 12 years and still serves as a Trustee for the Harris Methodist Health Foundation.
